Trades software has gone soft.
Trades software keeps getting bigger, slower, and more expensive. More modules nobody opens, more seats to pay for, less of your day getting anything done. Footing is the reset button.
The per-user tax
AU$55 a head, every month, forever. The bigger your shop gets, the more you pay for the same software. 10 users = $6,600/year you don't have to spend.
Your data, their hostage
Closed source means no export, no audit, no leaving. Your jobs, sites and photos live on a vendor's box. Switching cost: months of manual re-entry.
Sold as a suite, used as a swamp
Twenty-three modules, four you ever open. The other nineteen are there to justify the invoice. More tabs ≠ more done.
US software with an AUD switch
GST, ABN, BAS, SWMS, all afterthoughts bolted on. Built for someone else's tax year. Australian-first, not Australian-also.
Drag a job. The crew knows.
Multi-tech calendar with drag-to-reassign, instant push to the crew's phones, and a People plan that shows who's carrying the month before you commit. Field techs work the same jobs in an offline-first PWA. Pour-day signal isn't optional.
- Drag-to-reassign between technicians
- People plan with % planned per crew member
- Instant push notifications to mobile
- Offline-first work-order PWA for site

Compliance that won't let a job slip through.
SWMS and JSA templates are built in, with digital sign-off on site. A job can't be marked complete until the forms are filed — so nothing gets missed. Subbies do their induction once and they're set.
- SWMS and JSA templates with on-site digital sign-off
- Jobs can't close until safety forms are filed
- Subbie inductions: done once, tracked, blocks the first job until complete
- Expiry tracking keeps certs and forms current

Works where the work happens.
The crew doesn't sit at a desk. Footing installs straight from the phone's browser, runs without signal, and gets out of the way. Three taps to clock on, two to sign off, one to file a photo. SWMS gates the job before anyone swings a hammer.
- Installs from the phone's browser, no app store
- Works on site with zero signal, syncs when you're back
- SWMS sign-off before the job starts, not after
- Photos, notes and timesheets land on the right job, every time

Sam
The admin hire you never made.
Drafts your emails. Catches your variations. Chases your subbies. Sam handles the admin you'd normally do yourself — and nothing sends until you tap approve.

- INV-0231 is 14 days overdue ($9,400). Drafted a follow-up. Review?
- Lot 42 variation quote sent 8 days ago, no reply. Nudge?
- Taylor's SWMS expires Friday. Renewal already loaded.

Sent. SWMS renewal moved to your inbox for sign-off.
Admin has two halves. Sam handles both.
What lands in your inbox, and what should leave it before someone has to ask.
What lands in your inbox
- Drafts replies to client emails and requests
- Chases subbies who've gone quiet
- Catches variations before they walk out
- Handles council and compliance queries
- Flags scheduling clashes before they bite
What should leave it
- Drafts quotes, invoices and progress claims
- Books inspections and tracks licence renewals
- Orders materials ahead of stage starts
- Sends progress updates to clients
- Chases outstanding payments
Built to be let in. Kept in check.
No other AU trades platform plugs an AI in this deep. Here's why it's safe to.
Reads everything. Acts on nothing without you.
Sam gets full read access to your jobs, quotes and inbox so it's actually useful. Zero authority to act. Nothing sends, no money moves, nothing's signed off until you tap approve.
A Sam for every seat.
Office, PM, crew. Everyone gets their own Sam that knows their role and their jobs. The Sams talk to each other, so nothing falls between the desk and the site.
Switch off at night.
Sam watches every job 24/7 and surfaces what's slipping before you'd think to look. Close the laptop knowing nothing's been forgotten.
Can Footing actually do that? Yes.
Twenty-three capabilities. Already shipping.

Sensible answers.
When can I sign up?
We're in beta with a handful of trades businesses through 2026. Hosted access at app.getfooting.com opens to the public mid-year. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment it's your turn. Can't wait? The same software is on GitHub today, ready to run on your own server.
Is it really free if I host it myself? What's the catch?
Yes, free. Footing is open source. Run it on your own server (or hand it to your IT person) and pay us nothing. The only catch: you can't take the code and launch your own competing hosted Footing service for two years. After that, even that restriction lifts. Nothing in the license stops you using it to run your own building business, forever.
How does switching from AroFlo work?
You stay logged into AroFlo, click 'Import to Footing', and we pull your clients, sites, jobs, quotes, invoices, and site photos across. A full 5-year history takes about an hour. If anything doesn't come through cleanly, we'll bring it across by CSV.
Does it work on the phone? On site with no signal?
Yes. Footing installs straight from your phone's browser, no app store. Your crew can clock on, take photos, fill out forms, and sign off jobs even with no signal. Everything syncs the second they're back in range.
Does it handle GST, ABN and BAS properly?
Yes. GST goes on every line automatically. ABN lookups validate against the ABR. Invoice numbering, BAS-friendly exports, AU date formats, AUD everywhere. Built in Australia for Australian builders, not US software with a currency switch.
Will it sync with Xero or MYOB?
Xero, both ways, from day one. Invoices and payments reconcile in the background so your bookkeeper sees what site finished the moment it's done. MYOB is on the roadmap. If you're on something else, CSV exports work today.
What's Sam, and do I need it?
Sam is our AI admin assistant, built by the same team as Footing. You don't need Sam to run Footing, but you'll want it. Sam watches every job, quote, invoice and SWMS, then drafts the chaser email, nudges the subbie who's gone quiet, and flags the variation before it walks out the door. Footing was designed around Sam from day one, which means Sam gets full read access to your jobs to actually be useful, and zero authority to act until you tap approve. Nothing client-facing goes out, no money moves, no document gets signed off without your say-so. No other AU trades platform plugs an AI in this deep. And every Sam plan comes with a Footing seat for free, so the maths usually works out in your favour.
Why pay for Sam if I can just plug ChatGPT or Claude in?
ChatGPT and Claude wait for you to ask. Sam doesn't. Sam watches your jobs 24/7 and surfaces what needs doing before you've thought to look — the overdue invoice on day 14, the SWMS expiring on Friday, the variation quote that's been sitting unread for a week. Sam also speaks trades: knows what a SWMS is, knows AU GST and BAS rules, knows how a builder talks to a tile guy versus how a builder talks to a homeowner, and drafts in that voice. Sam is built for a whole company, not one user — every seat gets their own personal Sam who knows their role, their jobs, and their inbox, and the Sams talk to each other so nothing falls between the office, the PM, and the crew on site. ChatGPT can read your data through MCP; Sam runs your admin, across your whole team. Different jobs. Plus every Sam plan includes a Footing seat, which usually pays for itself.
Can I use ChatGPT or Claude with my Footing data?
Yes. Footing speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol). The easy way to think about it: MCP is a USB port for AI. Open ChatGPT or Claude on your desktop, plug Footing in once, and ask in plain English — 'what's outstanding from Northbank?', 'show me every job over $20k still in quote', 'draft a follow-up for the overdue invoices'. It uses the AI you already pay for, against your real jobs, no extra subscription. If you're technical, the same connection is a JSON API for your own scripts and automations.
Who's behind Footing?
A small Australian team. We got tired of paying $55 a head for software that still lost variations, so we built our own and put it on GitHub. Same crew builds Sam, the AI assistant.
Build on a solid footing.
Get paid for every variation, stay on top of every job, and switch off at night. Free if you host it, AU$25/user/month if we host it.
