Footing
Subbies and retention

Certify the subbie. See when you're the bank.

Each work order has a claim register: submitted, certified, paid. Retention is held. You can see when you have paid a subbie the client has not paid you for, before you keep funding the job in the dark.

Who it is for

Builders coordinating trades across sites. You certify what they claim, hold retention, and still get caught being the bank when the head-contract claim is late. You need both claims on one record, not a PDF and a spreadsheet.

What it does for the trades you pay

01

Certify against the work order

Submitted, certified, paid. On the order, not a PDF in email. Variations sit on the same register. Over-claim can be blocked before it posts.

02

Hold retention without a side spreadsheet

Retention is held per work order and released on the same register. Head-contract claims and subbie claims live on one job.

03

Let the subbie in, not into your costs

Subbies get their own portal for their work orders and claims. They do not see the rest of the job, or your margins. Users are free.

Head contract and subbie claims on one job

The pay-when-paid gap shows where you have paid subbies and the client has not paid you. That is the number that tells you when you are funding the project.

  • Certify against the work order, not a PDF in email
  • Same job as the progress claim you send up the chain
  • Spend over a limit still routes for approval

How do subbie claims work in Footing?

Each work order has a claim register: submitted, certified, paid. Variations sit on the same order. You certify against the work order instead of chasing a PDF in email, and over-claim can be blocked before it posts.

Can I hold retention on subbie work?

Yes. Retention is held per work order, not in a side spreadsheet you update after the fact. Head-contract retention and subbie retention live on the same job as the progress claim you send up the chain.

What is the pay-when-paid gap?

It shows where you have paid subbies but the client has not paid you yet, so you can see exactly when you are being the bank. That number sits next to live job cost and the head-contract claim.

Do subbies need a paid login?

No. Users are unlimited on every plan. Subbies get a scoped portal for their work orders and claims. They do not see the rest of the job, your budgets, or supplier prices.

Is this a legal claims tool?

No. Footing is the record: certify, hold retention, see the gap, and send the head-contract claim. It is so the register is not a spreadsheet.
